mmWave Radar Sensor Data Collection Session 1 (session aborted)

1. Overview

Project Name: mmWave Radar Sensor

Data Collection Session: 1st Session

Date: Mon 27 Jan

Location: Queen’s Building 1.15

2. Purpose and Scope

This session aims to collect radar data of participants performing three distinct activities (standing, sitting, lying down) for 3 minutes each, to support the development and validation of posture recognition algorithms using mmWave radar.

3. Setup

4. Participant Details

Participant Height (Range)
Ed 6ft
Emmanuel 5ft 8in
Faik 5ft 8in
Eddie 6ft

5. Activity Log

Record each activity with precise start/end times, duration, and file names. Each activity should last approximately 3 minutes.

Participant ID Activity Start Time End Time Duration (mins) Radar File Name Notes
Ed Standing 15:38 15:40 2 P001_Standing_XXXX.bin e.g., Facing sensor directly
Ed Sitting HH:MM HH:MM 2 P001_Sitting_XXXX.bin e.g., Sitting on a standard office chair
Ed Lying Down HH:MM HH:MM 5 P001_Lying_XXXX.bin e.g., Lying on back on a flat surface
Emmanuel Standing HH:MM HH:MM 5 P002_Standing_XXXX.bin

6. Procedure

  1. Preparation:
    • Ensure the environment is free of unnecessary movement, noise, and obstacles.
    • Verify mmWave radar sensor calibration (if applicable).
    • Confirm camera setup (focus, angle, and lighting).
  2. Data Collection:
    • Each participant performs the following activities for 3 minutes each: Standing, Sitting, Lying Down.
    • Record radar data and video simultaneously.
    • Save data files with the appropriate naming convention.
  3. Post-Collection Tasks:
    • Immediately back up recorded data to a secure location.
    • Perform a quick quality check (e.g., confirm file sizes, watch sample video segments, review radar logs).
    • Document any deviations from the planned procedure.
